The making of Colored People
About Colored People
Colored People was photographed in Cameroon, West Africa in 2005. Photographs were printed digitally on Kodak photo paper and tipped into debossed areas within the pages of the book. Printed on C & C Press handmade paper using a Vandercook SP20 and Charles Brand Etching Press. Wrapped in Stonehenge cover paper with orange relief prints. The book is protected inside a handmade drop spine box.
Dedicated in loving memory of our dear friend, leader, collaborator and celebrator of diversity, Tony Hill (1945-2007). 10% of the edition was donated to the Tony Hill Memorial Scholarship Fund in acknowledgment of his contributions to the project.
We also acknowledge the artists, Ed Ruscha and Adrian Piper, and their respective artists’ books in 1972 and 1991 entitled, Colored People. These books were fundamentally influential in our vision of Nolan’s photographs within a C & C Press artists’ book also entitled, Colored People.
